The 2024 Tony Awards were a rollercoaster of jazz hands, tearful speeches, and a boatload of sequins. And the star of the night? None other than the boy who lived himself, Daniel Radcliffe!
That’s right, our favorite wizard-turned-Broadway-sensation snagged the coveted Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical. This magical moment went down on Sunday (June 16) at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in the Big Apple.
Daniel charmed his way to victory by embodying Charley Kringas in the revival of Sondheim’s timeless masterpiece, Merrily We Roll Along. Can you believe it? This is Radcliffe’s very first Tony win, and get this—it’s his first nomination too! After strutting his stuff in four other Broadway gigs, the Tony gods finally smiled upon him.
The night wasn’t just about shiny trophies, though. Daniel hit the stage with his co-stars, the ever-dazzling Jonathan Groff and the fabulous Lindsay Mendez, for a rousing rendition of “Opening Doors.” Spoiler alert: doors were opened, hearts were warmed, and jazz hands were everywhere.
When it was time to claim his shiny new Tony, Daniel gave a speech that could melt even Snape’s heart. “Thank you so much to our cast, everybody on that stage,” he gushed, his eyes probably twinkling like Dumbledore’s. “It is an honor to be on stage with you every single night, and I will miss it so much.”
He didn’t stop there. Oh no. He turned up the feels to eleven, addressing his co-stars directly: “Speaking of missing things, Jonathan, Lindsay, I will miss you so much. I don’t really have to act in this show, I just have to look at you and feel everything I want to feel. I will never have it this good again.”
Cue the collective “aww” from the audience. So, here’s to you, Daniel Radcliffe—proof that even after Hogwarts, the magic is still very much alive!
