In today’s episode of “Rock Legends Versus the Human Body,” 77-year-old Queen guitarist Brian May found himself in an unexpected showdown with his own arm. Yes, you read that right – his arm decided to clock out for a brief, impromptu holiday, courtesy of what the docs called a “minor stroke.” But don’t worry, guys – the arm is back on the job, and so is Brian, shredding his way to recovery.
In a video update that was equal parts reassuring and delightfully British, May referred to the stroke as a “little health hiccup.” (Honestly, if this is how rock stars describe a stroke, I’m curious how they’d describe, say, a shark attack – “bit of a toothy misunderstanding” perhaps?) Brian, ever the understated hero, admitted, “It was a little scary.”
Imagine it: one minute, you’re minding your own business, being a guitar god, and the next minute, your arm is like, “Nah, I’m on break.” Talk about inconvenient! “All of a sudden — out of the blue — I didn’t have any control over this arm,” he shared, as if his arm had gone rogue on a secret mission.
But fear not, for the people at Frimley Park Hospital swooped in like medical superheroes, flashing blue lights and probably playing “Bohemian Rhapsody” in the background as they sped him to safety. “Very exciting!” May said, sounding like he was reviewing a particularly thrilling episode of Top Gear rather than a medical emergency.
Of course, Brian being Brian, he didn’t want to cause a fuss. “I really don’t want sympathy,” he added, as if his inbox was already full of messages like “You’re a legend!” and “Brian, do you still have that cool hair?” He assured fans he’s back to business, shredding solos like the rock titan we know and love.
Brian May is officially back from his brief tango with mortality. The arm’s on board again, the guitar’s ready, and we’re all ready to rock on.
