Ryan Garcia finds himself in a bit of a pickle.
The 25-year-old pugilist was apprehended for felony vandalism on a sunny Saturday afternoon (June 8) at the illustrious Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, Calif. Oh, how the mighty have fallen!
TMZ captured the surreal spectacle of our fighter being escorted away by the boys in blue, adorned in the latest fashion of silver bracelets – handcuffs, that is.
His legal eagle, Darin Chavez, solemnly relayed to the outlet: “[Ryan] was taken by the BHPD to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment and to our knowledge, may be charged with public intoxication.” Ah, the classic “public intoxication” – a timeless tale.
Sources within the law enforcement realm confided to TMZ that Ryan’s arrest stemmed from a tempestuous tirade against hotel property, which included his room and the hallowed hallway. In California, any damage exceeding the princely sum of $400 can elevate a misdemeanor to a felony. Ah, the devil is in the details!
The report suggests our boxer was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and/or substances of a dubious nature. Nonetheless, he demonstrated the decorum of a gentleman, cooperating peacefully with the authorities.
The prelude to this kerfuffle occurred on Wednesday (June 5), when police were summoned to the Waldorf for a welfare check, prompted by the concerns of a family member who feared Ryan might require assistance. The officers, channeling their inner Sherlock Holmes, concluded that all was well and departed.
But lo and behold, the night had other plans. Ryan, evidently dissatisfied with a peaceful evening, allegedly engaged in antics that led the hotel to impose a drinking embargo upon him.
Adding a twist to this tale, following his bout with Devin Haney earlier in the year, it emerged that Garcia tested positive for a verboten substance. He staunchly maintained his innocence, asserting he had not knowingly consumed any contraband.
In a poignant footnote to this saga, Ryan revealed that his mother had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, adding a layer of gravity to the boxer’s current tribulations.
