Olympic breakdancing sensation Raygun—aka Rachael Gunn—is finally taking the stage to address her viral dance-off at the 2024 Paris Olympics. And no, she hasn’t been moonwalking away from controversy; she’s here to bust some myths and break it down.
The 36-year-old dancer has already boogied her way into our hearts, but now she’s shimmying her way into the spotlight to tackle some of the not-so-great feedback she’s been getting.
She kicked off her Instagram video with a burst of enthusiasm, saying, “Hey party people, it’s your girl Raygun! First off, a gigantic thank you to everyone who’s been sending love my way. Your support means the world, and I’m thrilled that I managed to sprinkle a little joy into your lives. That was my whole jam.”
“But, plot twist! I didn’t realize that my dance moves would also open the floodgates to an avalanche of hate. It’s been like a bad remix of ‘The Funky Chicken’ out here. While I was out there having a blast, trust me, I was also working my tail off. It was like a full-body workout every day, and I poured my heart into it,” she continued.
Raygun then threw in some Olympic-sized kudos: “I’m super honored to have been part of the Aussie Olympic Team and to have made my debut in the breaking event. The other athletes were so incredible that I almost felt like a clumsy toddler at a talent show.”
Addressing the juicy rumors and conspiracy theories, she said, “Let’s set the record straight. There’s been some talk that I did a little ‘cheat code’ to snag my spot on the team. But hey, that’s all smoke and mirrors. Check out the official statement from the AOC, or the posts on the Ausbreaking Insta and the WDSF Breaking for Gold page for the real scoop.”
“And here’s a fun fact for you: there are zero points in breaking. Zero! It’s like judging who can eat the most pizza slices. If you’re curious about how I stacked up against my competition, you can check out the percentage breakdown on Olympics.com.”
Raygun wrapped it up with a plea for privacy, adding, “We’ve all been through a lot, so please give everyone some space. I promise I’ll be happy to chat more when I’m back in Australia. Until then, keep on grooving!”
