Anya Taylor-Joy & Drew Starkey Kick Off ‘Lucky’ Filming—And Yes, They’re Already Looking Fabulous!

Buy Me A Coffee

Anya Taylor-Joy and Drew Starkey are bringing the drama—and the hugs—in the first sneak peek of their brand-new series, Lucky! And honestly, if this pic is anything to go by, we’re already emotionally invested.

The 28-year-old Queen’s Gambit icon and the 31-year-old Outer Banks heartthrob are stepping into the roles of Lucky and Carey—aka crime-adjacent couple goals. Filming has officially kicked off in Las Vegas (because where else do you start a high-stakes crime drama?), before shifting to its home base in Los Angeles. Yes, this means Lucky is literally rolling the dice on her future.

So, what’s the deal with Lucky? Buckle up: The story follows a young woman (played by Anya, obviously) who thought she had left behind her life of crime. But—plot twist!—she’s gotta dust off her criminal past for one last job. You know, the classic “I’m out of the game, but the game’s not out of me” situation. Someone cue the dramatic music.

In the latest plot twist off-screen, Drew Starkey was just announced as a cast member one day after he showed up at the 2025 SAG Awards looking all dapper and award-presenting with Millie Bobby Brown. Talk about a busy schedule.

But wait, there’s more! This limited series has an A-list lineup:
– Annette Bening as Priscilla (probably delivering wisdom and side-eyes in equal measure).
– Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as Billie (because every good crime story needs someone with a cool name like Billie).
– Timothy Olyphant as John—who, rumor has it, is actually Lucky’s father (cue the dramatic dun dun dun!).

Behind the scenes, we’ve got Jonathan Tropper (aka the brains behind Banshee and Warrior) as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Reese Witherspoon is also on board as an EP because, at this point, she’s the fairy godmother of good TV. Jonathan Van Tulleken is directing multiple episodes, including the pilot, while Greg Yaitanes and Jet Wilkinson are also stepping in to direct.

Long story short: We’re getting crime, family drama, Anya Taylor-Joy being effortlessly cool, and Drew Starkey probably looking broody in dim lighting. Lucky can’t come soon enough!
