(Clark Kent forgot to turn on his X-ray vision for this one.)
Tom Welling, aka the guy who flew through the early 2000s as Clark Kent in Smallville, had a less-than-super moment with the law this weekend.
The 47-year-old actor found himself arrested for DUI in California, proving that even superheroes have their kryptonite — and apparently, his comes in a bottle.
According to TMZ, Tom’s less-than-heroic adventure took place in none other than an Arby’s parking lot in Yreka, California. Yreka, for those wondering, is a small town chilling near the northern border of California, almost in Oregon territory. Because nothing screams “rock bottom” like getting arrested at 12:01 a.m. on a Monday next to a stack of curly fries.
The cops reportedly pulled Tom over for allegedly driving under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or higher — not quite the kind of numbers you’d expect from Superman, but hey, everyone has an off night.
What’s ironic is that just 24 hours earlier, Tom was out here posting loving tributes to his wife, Jessica, on Instagram. “Happy Birthday to our Angel who makes our dreams come true and inspires us even more! We love you to the moon and back!” he wrote, adding a series of sweet photos. Unfortunately, the next trip Tom took wasn’t to the moon but to the county jail.
For fans who are wondering, Tom doesn’t pop up in public too often these days, but he occasionally makes appearances at Comic Cons. In fact, he was in New Orleans just two weeks ago for one of these events. Let’s hope his next headline-worthy appearance involves signing autographs and not mugshots.
Meanwhile, Arby’s hasn’t commented on the incident, but you can’t help but wonder if they were secretly thrilled for the free publicity. “We have the meats…and apparently, Clark Kent too.”
