In the new Apple TV+ series Dear…, Selena Gomez expressed her deep gratitude to her close friend, Francia Raisa, for donating her kidney in 2017, which ultimately saved her life. Selena recounted the moment when Francia got tested within three days to determine if she was a suitable donor match, which she fortunately was. Selena acknowledged that she was incredibly fortunate, as not everyone has such positive outcomes in similar situations.
During the show, Selena also revealed that she and Francia have matching tattoos to commemorate the date of the transplant. The Only Murders in the Building star spoke highly of Francia, saying that she owes her a debt of gratitude and would never forget what she did for her. However, in November 2022, Selena’s Rolling Stone interview caused a rift between the two friends. Selena declared that Taylor Swift was her only friend in Hollywood, which appeared to upset Francia. Francia caught wind of Selena’s remarks and commented “Interesting” on an Instagram post, but quickly deleted it and unfollowed Selena on the social media site.
Although it is unclear when the Dear… interview was filmed, it is worth noting that Selena did not mention Francia in her 2021 documentary, My Mind & Me, which focused on her health struggles. Regardless, Selena’s appreciation for Francia’s life-saving gift remains unwavering.
