‘Prison Break’ Reboot: Hulu Says “Hold My Orange Jumpsuit,” Orders Pilot Episode

Buy Me A Coffee

Prison Break might be busting out of the nostalgia vault. Hulu just announced that they’re greenlighting a pilot for a fresh spin on the iconic jailbreak drama. That’s right, Prison Break is making a break for it—again.

The Details (Kind of… Sort of… Not Really)
According to Deadline, Hulu is teaming up with Elgin James (yes, the guy behind Mayans M.C.) and 20th Television to mastermind this new breakout. However, let’s address the elephant in the cellblock: no, Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell—aka Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows—are not expected to return. Apparently, this reboot is “its own thing set within the same universe.” Translation? The tattoos, bromance, and improbable escape plans will still exist, just with fresh faces and maybe fewer shirts.

As for the plot? Your guess is as good as ours because Hulu’s keeping it under tighter wraps than a maximum-security prison. Stay tuned, though. When they decide to spill the beans, we’ll be here, ready to overanalyze.

Flashback: What Made the Original So Iconic?
The OG Prison Break (2005-2017) was the kind of show that made you question every single prison’s security system. Michael Scofield, played by Wentworth Miller, was the genius who tattooed an entire escape map onto his body because apparently, paper was just too mainstream. His brother, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), was framed for a crime he didn’t commit and sentenced to death row. Naturally, the only solution was an absurdly convoluted plan involving fake identities, exploding toilets, and a Scofield-level of smarts.

A Reboot Nobody Knew They Needed?
When we first heard whispers of a reboot back in November 2023, fans were divided. On one hand, Prison Break is a classic. On the other, reboots have a reputation for being… well… hit or miss. Will this be a masterstroke of storytelling genius or just another cash grab? Who knows! But let’s be honest, if there aren’t at least two over-the-top escape attempts and one morally ambiguous anti-hero, what are we even doing here?

For now, all we can do is wait, speculate, and maybe start designing our own escape tattoos. Because if there’s one thing Prison Break taught us, it’s that breaking out is always cooler with ink.
