Pete Davidson is over being the poster boy for “How Did He Pull That?” relationships. The 31-year-old comedian—known for his time on Saturday Night Live and his ability to date Hollywood’s finest like it’s his side gig—recently got real about how exhausting it was to have his romantic history scrutinized like a reality TV show.
Back in 2018, Pete and Ariana Grande were engaged for approximately five minutes (okay, a few months, but still) before they called it quits. Since then, he’s been linked to a lineup of famous women so impressive that his dating roster should be in the Smithsonian. From Kim Kardashian to Kaia Gerber to Madelyn Cline, Pete’s love life has been a tabloid staple—whether he liked it or not. (Spoiler: he did not.)
Now, in a new interview, Pete spilled the tea on why the public’s obsession with his exes was “humiliating” and how he feels about Ariana these days.
Pete: “Why Is My Dating Life the One That’s National News?”
In a chat with Page Six, Pete kept it real: “It was pretty humiliating and upsetting, honestly. Everyone in Hollywood is dating everyone! Look at Paul Mescal, Timmy Chalamet, Barry Keoghan!” he ranted, clearly wondering why he was the one being treated like the Casanova of chaos.
“But because I’m ugly, they wrote about me,” he added, in what is possibly the most Pete Davidson way to describe being Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor. “I was harassed for like five years, and it made my life a living hell.”
Basically, while most people go through breakups privately by eating ice cream and blocking their ex on Instagram, Pete had to endure global headlines about his heartbreak—on a loop.
“I Did SNL, But All You Cared About Was Who I Was Dating”
Pete reminded everyone that, oh yeah, he actually has a career. “It’s embarrassing because you want people to write about your work,” he said, adding that he was one of the youngest-ever cast members on Saturday Night Live. But instead of people talking about his comedy, they were too busy making PowerPoint presentations about his love life.
After his split from Madelyn Cline, Pete decided to take a break from dating and focus on himself. (Which, in Hollywood terms, means approximately three months before he’s spotted with another A-lister at Nobu.)
And What About Ariana?
So, where does he stand with Ariana Grande now? Pete made it clear that there’s no bad blood. “When we see each other, which is few and far between, because we’re not in the same circles, it’s all love,” he said.
And in true Pete fashion, he hyped her up: “I hope she wins the Oscar, I hope she takes the gold.”
Ariana, of course, just snagged an Oscar nomination for Wicked, which means Pete might actually see his ex take home Hollywood’s most prestigious award. And honestly, that’s the kind of mature, supportive ex-energy we love to see.
Moral of the story? Pete Davidson just wants to be known for his jokes, not his girlfriends—but good luck getting the internet to listen.
