Live-Action ‘Lion King’ Opening Scene Shown at D23

The opening scene to Jon Favreau’s live-action remake of ‘The Lion King’ (July 19 2019) was aired at yesterday’s Disney D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.

Reports say that the events in the scene mirrored that of the animated Disney original, and stars James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, and John Oliver as Zazu, and Donald Glover as Simba.

Favreau said to the crowd while airing the top-secret footage: “We know how important this is. People want to understand what our approach is, what we’re doing, and as soon as I found out we were going to be doing this film, my first question was, when’s D23?” Responses have been overall positive to the preview, with one fan writing on Twitter: “YOU GUYS I AM CRYING. I JUST SAW THE FOOTAGE FROM THE LION KING AND I AM SHAKING. IT LOOKS INCREDIBLE. CHILLS.” See below and let us know what you think:
