29-year-old comedian Jay Pharoah is coming for his now former employer, Saturday Night Live!
Pharoah spoke with HOT 97 today and says that he felt unappreciated while on the comedy show. Jay says: “You go where you’re appreciated. They put people into boxes. Whatever they want you to do, they expect you to do. And I’m fiery too… I’m not a ‘yes n—–.’ That’s not me.”
He continues: “If you really noticed, for the last year and a half, they didn’t do any Obama sketches. I was like, ‘Just let me do my character and we’ll be fine.’ [They] didn’t want to do that.” Last August it was announced that Pharoah would not be returning to the show, despite his claim to having pushed for diversity and gotten Leslie JOnes and Sasheer Zamata jobs on SNL.
