Oh boy, have you heard about the group of Iranian teen girls who are in trouble with the law? Apparently, they posted a TikTok video of themselves dancing to a Selena Gomez song, and now the police are after them!
The video went viral, and it shows the five girls dancing without headscarves in front of some tower blocks in western Tehran. They were grooving to Selena Gomez and Nigerian singer Rema’s song “Calm Down,” which was released on International Women’s Day. You go, girls!
But in Iran, this is no ordinary dance party. According to Iranian-Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari, this is an act of defiance. Can you imagine? Dancing to a song without a headscarf is basically like committing a crime over there. It’s crazy!
Some Canadian journalists even tweeted about it, saying that these girls are incredibly courageous for taking such a risk. They could face persecution from the Iranian government, which has a history of murdering women for protesting. Yikes!
To make matters worse, an Ekbatan Twitter account warned the girls that they could be arrested and detained. Iranian security forces are even reviewing CCTV footage to identify the girls and are questioning the guards. Talk about being on the hot seat!
And it’s not just the dance party that’s causing trouble in Iran. Apparently, hundreds of young Iranian girls attending different schools are being affected by noxious fumes wafting into their classrooms. The officials initially dismissed the reports, but now they think it could be intentional attacks aimed at closing schools for girls. What a bunch of stinkers!
So, if you’re in Iran and you feel like dancing to a Selena Gomez song, you better watch out. You might just end up on the wrong side of the law. On the bright side, at least you won’t have to worry about noxious fumes.
