Drake is serving up some hot tea on his old flame Serena Williams.
In case you missed it, back in 2015, the 37-year-old rap wizard and the 42-year-old tennis queen were spotted smooching at a sushi joint. Yes, you heard it right: love was in the air and apparently, it tasted like soy sauce.
Recently, Drake decided to unleash a tidal wave of his music onto the world—100 gigabytes of unreleased tracks, behind-the-scenes shenanigans, and enough studio footage to make you question how much footage one man needs. Amidst this audio avalanche, Drake let slip to his mom, Sandi Graham, that his 2016 hit “Too Good” is actually a serenade to Serena.
“I get deep and meaningful with some songs, but this one’s all about me and Serena,” Drake told his mom with the kind of enthusiasm usually reserved for explaining your favorite pizza topping. He continued, “It’s funny, when I make tracks about women, I also whip up songs just for them. It’s like crafting a personalized love letter, but with beats and rhymes. I know Serena will get it, and thankfully, she won’t be throwing her tennis racket at me because it’s all in good fun.”
When Sandi inquired whether Serena was “seeing someone else,” Drake had a classic reply: “I don’t know, mom.”
Fast forward to December 2016, and Serena got engaged to Alexis Ohanian, and the couple tied the knot the following year. They’re now happily parenting two adorable daughters.
Oh, and for the cherry on top: in 2022, Alexis threw some shade back at Drake when he dubbed him Serena’s “groupie.” Looks like the tennis court wasn’t the only place where things got a little competitive!
