Despite the artificial flavors, MSG count and sodium, Cup Noodles is the favorite instant lunch and late night snack for many!
CEO of Nissin Foods USA, Al Multari, announced last Thursday that they will be changing the 45-year-old recipe for the first time! Speaking to The LA Times, Multari says that customers had a major influence on the decision to change the recipe. Multari says that customers “wanted the same taste but with an improved nutritional profile.”
He continues in a press release: “They told us that without sacrificing taste, the three most compelling changes we could make to our recipe were: lower sodium, no added MSG and no artificial flavors. This is exactly what we’ve been able to accomplish.” The new recipe reduces MSG, sodium, and artifical flavors while using cabbage juice to “boost the taste.” However, according to The Wall Street Journal even with the improved recipe, eating one Cup Noodles will use up a third of your saturated fat intake for the day!
