All aboard the SS Drama! Captain Johnny “Eyeliner” Depp is back, this time as a mysterious yacht guest in the upcoming film Day Drinker. Yes, you read that right. Day Drinker. Because Night Drinker was already taken… by all of us in our twenties.
Directed by Marc Webb (a guy who made Spider-Man emo and somehow pulled it off), this cinematic cocktail was shaken and stirred by screenwriter Zach Dean. It also stars Madelyn Cline, best known for being hot in Outer Banks, and Penélope Cruz, aka the international queen of looking stunning while committing fictional crimes.
The plot? Buckle up: A private yacht bartender (played by Cline) is just trying to serve overpriced mojitos and mind her business when bam!—Depp appears on board, looking like he hasn’t slept since Pirates of the Caribbean 3. The two end up entangled in a web of criminal chaos, courtesy of Cruz, who likely shows up wearing sunglasses at night and whispering things like “You don’t know who you’re dealing with.”
Oh, and it’s all happening in Spain, because obviously this level of drama needs tapas, sangria, and a flamenco soundtrack.
Meanwhile, back at the Depp family group chat, Lily-Rose Depp recently did a rare dad shout-out in an interview. The Nosferatu star (yes, she’s in Nosferatu—because clearly vampires run in the family) revealed which of Johnny’s past roles “traumatized” her as a child. Spoiler: It’s probably Edward Scissorhands. Nothing says childhood trauma like dad having knives for fingers and cutting the hedges into topiary giraffes.
So, if you’re into mysterious guests, criminal entanglements, and watching Johnny Depp do literally anything that screams “I own five scarves and a secret,” stay tuned for Day Drinker—coming soon to a theater, yacht club, or unnecessarily dramatic brunch near you.
