Ten million people were in the mood for some captivating drama last night, as Fox unleashed the premiere of Alcatraz.
With its new mystery entry, Fox is hoping that fans of another island mystery series will want to get “Lost” in “Alcatraz” (Mon., 8 p.m. EST on Fox).
But while that series introduced a massive cast of characters in its pilot, “Alcatraz” focused primarily on four.
It also quickly established its case-of-the-week format with two distinct capture stories.
That concept – the return of hundreds of prisoners from the infamous Alcatraz prison, not having aged a day, but as dangerous as ever – certainly sounds like a show that could work long-term.
The series was co-created by “Lost” writer Elizabeth Sarnoff — who has since left the show over creative differences. Jack Bender, who directed some three dozen episodes of “Lost,” is also an executive producer on “Alcatraz” and directed the second episode.
